California's Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles - Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) knocked out former world champion Javier Fortuna (37-4-1, 26 KOs) in the sixth round of their junior welterweight fight.
Garcia dominated the opening three rounds before dropping Fortuna with a well timed body shot in the fourth.
Garcia put on another impressive performance on Saturday night, defeating Fortuna with three knockdowns to secure the victory. After winning, he immediately turned to the microphone to criticize his longtime rival. "100%, I felt significantly better, "When asked about his five-pound weight gain, Garcia responded. In the fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds of the fight, Garcia submitted Fortuna.
Garcia used his quickness and power to get the fight into high gear after it got off to a relatively sluggish and lethargic start in order to achieve the statement knockout he was going for.
