"Killing spree" in Iran as the authorities crack down on opposition

Alireza Akbari, a British-Iranian national and former deputy defense minister, was executed by Iran recently on suspicion of spying for the United Kingdom. The death of Akbari comes after four other executions and the crushing of anti-government demonstrations by Iranian authorities. Iran's executions and unfair trials have been condemned by Western nations, particularly the US and the EU.
In September, protests against the government broke out across the country in Iran following the passing of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish Iranian lady who had been jailed by the morality police for dressing inappropriately.
