Ajax and Manchester United agree on the transfer of Lisandro Martinez.

Martinez is a great defender who can play a variety of positions, but you would imagine he was acquired to play central defense, where he has spent the majority of his career.
It is obvious that Ten Hag truly wanted him brought in because United spent more than £50 million on him and stole him from Arsenal.
This would imply that he will start, which begs the question of who will team up with him.
The club's best defender, Raphael Varane, is unquestionably too talented to be on the bench for a Man United squad that is as bad as it is.
Martinez is unique as a central defender because he stands only 5 feet 10 inches tall. He won 70% of his headers in the Eredivisie last season, the highest success rate of any player to challenge more than 100, so that wasn't a problem, but another statistic shows he'd be useful in midfield.
Martinez completed more passes than any other player who appeared in the Eredivisie more than ten times last season, according to Opta, with an average of 82.3 per 90 minutes. Martinez could easily be inserted into the midfield with De Jong still on the way and an over-reliance on Fred and Scott McTominay one of the issues from the previous season. The Argentine would gladly play that role.
