In London Bernard Cribbins, a popular British performer whose seven-decade career included "Carry On" comedies, kid's TV, and "Doctor Who," has passed away. He was 93. Cribbins passed away on Thursday, according to Agent Gavin Barker Associates.
The statement read, "Bernard's impact to British entertainment is without debate." All those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him say that he was exceptional and embodied the finest of his generation.
Cribbins, who was born in 1928 into a low-income family in Oldham, northwest England, dropped out of school when he was just a teenager and began working as a stage manager and bit part in local repertory theater.
A friendly, affable character actor, Cribbins was a familiar face for many generations of Britons. He voiced every character in "The Wombles," a 1970s cartoon series about a family of burrowing critters living under Wimbledon Common in London. He portrayed station porter Albert Perks in the famous 1970 film "The Railway Children."
